02/23/2009 - Washington, DC (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Earl Clark had 22 points and eight rebounds as the sixth-ranked Louisville Cardinals cruised to a 76-58 victory over the Georgetown Hoyas at Verizon Center.
Terrence Williams chipped in 10 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists while Samardo Samuels and Preston Knowles each donated 10 points for the Cardinals (22-5, 13-2 Big East), who have won their last four games.
Chris Wright had 12 points and Greg Monroe donated 10 points and five rebounds for the Hoyas (14-12, 5-10), who have dropped four of their last five games.
After giving up a pair of free throws to start the game, Louisville scored the next nine points for a 9-2 lead a bit over three minutes.
Several minutes later, the Hoyas cut the deficit to five points on a jumper from Austin Freeman, but the Cardinals got the next seven points and held a 23-11 lead on Knowles' three-pointer with 11 minutes left in the first half.
Louisville built its lead to 16 points after Samuels' slam dunk made it a 38-22 game with just over four minutes to play in the first half.
However, Jessie Sapp scored the final seven points of the half and his buzzer- beating long three-ball cut the deficit to 41-31 heading into the locker room.
DaJuan Summers' jumper got the Hoyas to within eight points, 50-42, with about 13 1/2 minutes to play.
However, Knowles countered with a jumper and, after a Wright shot was blocked, Edgar Sosa made it a 54-42 game on a layup.
Julian Vaughn then tipped in a shot for Georgetown and, after misses on both sides, Wright's slam attempt didn't fall and Clark buried a trey to give Louisville a 57-44 lead with under 10 minutes to play.
Freeman countered with a layup to cut the lead to 11 points, but Williams was fouled on a slam and he hit the free throw. After Freeman missed a jumper at the other end, Terrence Jennings connected on a basket for a 62-46 lead with a bit over seven minutes to play.
It proved too much for Georgetown to overcome as the Cardinals maintained a double-digit lead through the remainder of the game.
